Glenmorangie Barrel Select Release – Cognac Cask Finish – Aged 13 Years – Small Batch Release (05/2021)

This gorgeous teal bottle is the latest expression in Glenmorangie’s Barrel Select Release series. It’s an expressive 13 Year Old that was initially matured in ex-Bourbon casks, before being finished in the finest refill Cognac casks for four years.

Dr. Bill Lumsden, the head of whisky creation at Glenmorangie, has always dreamed of mingling the mellow taste of Cognac with the world-famous Scotch. To ensure that the whisky’s character isn’t overpowered by the French oak, he employed Cognac casks that had been filled several times. And, in our humble opinion, he has fashioned yet another masterpiece. The Cognac influence laces notes of cinnamon-sprinkled pastéis de nata, leather, iris, cedar, clove and almond croissant delicately into Glenmorangie’s tarte Tatin, yellow egg plum, ginger biscuit, shortbread and summery fruit flavours. The result is a whisky that will appeal to Scotch aficionados just as much as brandy lovers.

Glenmorangie is a distillery that needs little or no introduction, seeing as how it’s now a household – if sometimes mispronounced – name. Established in 1843 – although alcohol production may have started as early as 1703 – the folk of Tain have passed their skills down from generation to generation. But amidst all that tradition, they’ve never stopped innovating and only Prohibition and World War II have briefly stopped their remarkably tall whisky stills from running.
