Road Trip Through Mexico: Day 4 (Thursday, September 1, 2022)

$10.00

Join us on Thursday, September 1st at 6:30 pm, as we continue our road trip through Mexico with a deep dive into raicilla.

All aboard for stop #4 of our agave road trip! This week we will focus on raicilla, from the sandy coasts and occidental mountains of Mexico. Raicilla is produced in Jalisco from agaves other than tequila’s blue weber and it is mostly single-distilled, bringing flavors you can’t find in mezcal or tequila, but it can also be surprisingly subtle and light.

Some people call it “the mezcal of Jalisco”, others “the original moonshine of Mexico.” Join us and draw your own conclusions.

We will try five raicillas from La Venenosa (a brand brought to the US by Arik Torren in 2014), one from El Lobo de la Sierra, and four tequilas to compare the experience. We will explore why a dangerous name (venenosa = poisonous) is dangerously delicious – it’s not a coincidence that La Venenosa and the raicilla category in general is quickly getting so many new followers and fans.
