Monkey 47 & More Gin Hybrid Tasting & Cocktails (March 25, 2021)

Join us on Thursday, March 25th, at 7:00 PM, for a hybrid Gin tasting with Tim Murphy, Brand Manager at Pernod Ricard, and cocktails by Gianna Bushe, a.k.a. @bibitybobitybooze.

Monkey 47 has become a cult gin for his back story, branding and complex flavor profile. Fifteen years ago, distiller/founder Alex Stein heard the story of Montgomery ‘Monty’ Collins, from the Royal Air Force, who after World War II helped in the reconstruction of Berlin, then opened a guesthouse called “The Wild Monkey” in the German Black Forest, and developed a Schwarzald Dry gin recipe using local botanicals. A few years later Stein was launching Monkey 47, which contains 47 botanicals —several from the Black Forest— and has an AVB of 47%. 

Plymouth Gin also has a story behind. “Plymouth Gin” used to be a Protected Geographical Indication that pertained to any gin distilled in Plymouth, England, but today there is only one gin produced at Plymouth,  by the Black Friars Distillery. The Plymouth Original Strength is bottled at 41.2% ABV. It’s slightly less dry than London Dry gin due to a higher than usual proportion of root ingredients.

Pickup will be available at Norfolk Wine & Spirits starting at 5:00 PM on Friday, March 19th. Delivery of tasting kits to those within our free local delivery range will be made before 6:00 PM on Thursday, March 25th.

The Zoom link will be sent to participants after they’ve purchased their take-home tasting kits. Must be of legal drinking age (21+) to participate. No refunds.

Due to unprecedented times, in-person attendance is limited to a total of 10 guests with a maximum group size of two persons. This will be a seated event to ensure adequate distancing between groups. The Curry House has asked for masks to be worn at all times, with the exception of when guests are seated at their table.

To coincide with the tasting, some of these expressions will be on sale between March 25th and March 28th.
