MORE ABOUT 2020 MOSEL RIESLING
The grapes come from the steep vineyards of Piesport and neighboring communities, which are exclusively owned by wineries. The soils consist primarily of gray Devonian slate with quartz influences. The steep southerly orientation heats up the slate soil quickly, resulting in ripe and fruity-spicy Riesling wines.

The hand-picked grapes are gently pressed and the must is fermented partly in large wooden barrels and partly in steel tanks. A long yeast storage period of at least 5 months guarantees freshness, complexity and development potential.

Delicate bouquet of stone fruits and pears, plus the fresh slate minerality. On the palate there is a classic Middle Moselle type: peaches, pears and ripe apples, balanced by an invigorating acidity with a salty-mineral note.

Inviting and approachable as a young wine, this wine will develop a more intense and spicy fruit after 2-3 years. Even after 5 years or more, this wine can impress with its freshness and harmony.

Chilled at 10°, a universal accompaniment to light cuisine with dishes such as salads, white meat, fish and seafood. With a little maturity it can also be used with more lush, intensely aromatic dishes.

Wines

The focus of our work is the development of fruit-sweet wines . For our wines, which we classify according to the VDP statute, we strive for a long aging potential, usually lasting decades. It is always fascinating when our wines taste so fresh and complex when they are older.

Restraint and sensitive intervention are also due to the aging process, which takes place in all wines with spontaneous, natural yeasts. The fermentation of the must takes place at a controlled low temperature, either in stainless steel or in the classic old Moselle wooden barrel – the Fuder.

When it comes to dry wines, we cultivate a powerful and lively, mineral style. However, we do not use the term “dry” for these wines because the wines do not always reach the legal “dry limit” but have the taste character of a dry wine.

For the Kabinett wines, only healthy grapes are harvested and care is taken to ensure that the wine has a particularly delicate, invigorating, and not too lush expression.

We also press the Spätlese and Auslese exclusively from fully or highly ripe, healthy grapes. Despite all the richness and complexity of the aromas, we strive for a very stimulating, fresh character with these wines.

From the Auslese with gold capsules onwards, the raisin-like shrunken berries due to noble rot (Botrytis) come into play. These wines can mature for decades and, in addition to lots of fruit, show a pronounced mineral spice.
