Winemaker Notes
Agrelo presents purple color with ruby red reflections. The nose shows intense aromas of ripe red fruit flavors interwoven with spices notes like black pepper, thyme, curry, with layers of cedar. The mouthfeel is rich with layers of cassis flavors and notes of black pepper, clove, leather and tobacco. The finish is bright and fresh with finely grained tannins.
This very special single vineyard Cabernet is best paired with a thick rib-eye steak or roast leg of lamb. The wine also pairs well with mushroom dishes and salty and fatty smoked meats.
Professional Ratings
Vinous 93 Points
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Catena Appellation Agrelo from Luján de Cuyo was aged for eight months in a third new barrels. Garnet red in hue. The nose offers notes of roasted red pepper, ash and ripe blackcurrant along with hints of spice. Broad and expansive in the mouth, the mild palate presents grippy tannins that channel and structure the flow into the pleasant, lengthy, bold finish.
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate 92 Points
The varietal 2021 Appellation Agrelo Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a cooler part of Luján de Cuyo that was planted in 1993 and produces fresher Cabernet. The wine has 13.4% alcohol and is medium-bodied with fine varietal tannins. It matured in new and used barrels for six to eight months, depending on the lot.
James Suckling 92 Points
Subtle sweet spices and coffee to the currants and sweet tobacco. Elegant and dusty on the palate with high-quality, small-grained tannins. Flavorful, chalky and long. Drink or hold.
