A fascinating companion to the Ruby Port bottling, this 14-year-old Burnside was matured in a first-fill Tawny Port hogshead.
Burnside is the trade name widely associated with teaspooned Balvenie, technically making the whisky a blended malt. Here the Tawny Port cask pushes the spirit toward caramel, baked fruit, nuts and creamy dessert notes.
Tasting the Ruby and Tawny Port versions side by side should provide a particularly interesting look at how two different styles of Port interact with essentially the same underlying style of spirit.

Tasting Notes
Nose: Caramel, white chocolate and fresh strawberries.
Palate: Toffee, baked apples and strawberry tart followed by crème brûlée, toasted almonds, marzipan and citrus zest.
Finish: Medium with white pepper, lingering red fruit and delicate creaminess.
About Burnside
Burnside is not a distillery. It is a trade name used for Balvenie that has been “teaspooned” with a very small quantity of another single malt. The practice changes its legal classification from single malt to blended malt and allows the whisky to circulate without using the Balvenie name.
