The eighth edition of Westland’s Garryana American Single Malt continues the annual journey into the heart of the Pacific Northwest, where Quercus garryana—a bold, native oak—takes center stage. Over the years, Westland has refined the supporting cast of casks to both honor and temper the formidable character of Garry Oak.

Edition 8 features a dynamic and diverse cask mix:

Virgin Garry Oak (38%)

Pedro Ximénez Butt (45%)

Washington State Red Wine (12%)—previously held Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon

First Fill ex-Bourbon (5%)

This year’s release employs a six-malt grain bill and is aged a minimum of four years, bottled at a confident 50% ABV. The result is a whiskey where the savory spice of Garryana is lifted and softened by floral and rounded tones from sherry and red wine casks—a harmonious collision of earth and elegance.

Tasting Notes
Appearance: A warm, orange-brown glow in the glass, with thin, clinging legs that suggest a well-aged but lively spirit.

Nose: A decadent welcome—chocolate, orange marmalade, brown sugar, warm spice, and baking bread. Like a visit to the Willy Wonka factory mid-production.

Palate: Rich and layered. The punchy spice of Garryana is deftly balanced by the PX and wine casks. Notes of Oregon oak, dark chocolate, marzipan, butterscotch, marshmallow, and nougat play across the tongue. The red wine influence lends depth without overpowering.

Finish: Moderate in length—elegant, flavorful, and smooth, fading gently with grace.
