A Speyside single malt finished for 15 months in a 2nd fill ex Super Tawny Porto barrique. Distilled April 2014, bottled at 55.6% cask strength. 280 bottles total, the largest outturn in this Tri Carragh window.

Super Tawny is the long-aged version of Tawny Port, typically aged 20 years or more in oak before being decanted. A 2nd fill cask from that maturation carries the dried fruit, nut, and oxidative complexity of long Tawny without the heavy sweetness of a first fill.

About Tri Carragh
Tri Carragh is Gaelic for “three pillars,” a nod to the three core ingredients that make whisky: water, barley, and yeast. The independent bottler selects single casks one at a time, choosing each one for the conversation it will start. Every release is small. Every release is final. When the bottles are gone, that cask is gone.

This release is part of Tri Carragh’s quarterly outturn and was selected by The Whiskey Lab for import to the United States.

Distillery profile
Mannochmore sits beside Glenlossie at the same Diageo site in Elgin, Speyside, founded in 1971.
The two distilleries share buildings and infrastructure but produce distinctly different spirit characters. Mannochmore is fruitier and slightly heavier than its sister.

Like Glenlossie, Mannochmore is primarily used as a blending malt and is rarely seen as an official single malt. Independent bottlings are how most drinkers encounter the distillery.

Mannochmore’s fuller body makes it well suited to fortified wine finishes. Port and sherry casks tend to bring out the distillery’s rounder, sweeter side.

Cask profile
A 2nd fill Port barrique previously holding Super Tawny Porto. Tawny Port is aged in oak rather than bottle, and Super Tawny refers to Tawnies aged 20 years or longer. The wood absorbs the dried fruit, nut, and gentle oxidative notes that define long Tawny.

At 2nd fill, the cask gives those characteristics to the whisky in a measured way. 15 months was the finishing window. The Port adds dried fig, raisin, and walnut on top of Mannochmore’s natural Speyside fruit, with a soft tannic grip on the finish.

Bottled at 55.6% cask strength, non-chill filtered, natural colour. 280 bottles total.
