# 🥃 Joe Foley Trumpets Scotch Malt Whisky Society — and NWG Attempts a Bottle Kill!

**Joe Foley opens up his personal SMWS collection**, featuring some rather compelling whiskies. Tonight, **a Bottle Kill will be attempted** as we explore eight fascinating Society bottlings.

### A Little About SMWS

Founded in **1983**, the **Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS)** has built a remarkable reputation for selecting distinctive individual casks and bottling them with an emphasis on **character, individuality and discovery** — frequently at full cask strength.

Part of the fun is the numbering system: the **first number identifies the distillery**, while the second identifies the individual cask. Thus, **SMWS 1.211** is the Society’s 211th cask from Distillery No. 1 — **Glenfarclas**.

Then come the wonderfully descriptive — and occasionally bonkers — names assigned by the SMWS tasting panel. Behind those names are some **seriously interesting whiskies**, often showing familiar distilleries from a completely different perspective.
