Staoisha represents a very different face of Bunnahabhain.
While Bunnahabhain is famous for producing predominantly unpeated Islay malt, Staoisha is the name encountered on independently bottled parcels of the distillery’s heavily peated spirit.
This seven-year-old hogshead is bottled at 54.5% ABV, giving us a youthful, high-strength look at smoky Bunnahabhain spirit without an elaborate finishing cask getting in the way.
For peat lovers, this is one of the more interesting curiosities in the shipment.

Distillery Profile – Bunnahabhain
Bunnahabhain was established on the northeastern coast of Islay in 1881 and is unusual among the island’s distilleries because its signature house style is predominantly unpeated. Its tall pot stills help produce a comparatively delicate spirit, although the distillery also makes peated whisky for selected releases. That contrast is what makes independently bottled Staoisha particularly interesting: it shows the smoky side of a distillery better known for unpeated Islay malt.
