It pays tribute to the culture-rich town of Stellenbosch from which grows a reputation of innovation, originality, resourcefulness and creativity; the core principles of winemaking. The color is dark and intense. The nose shows restraint, with aromas of complex black berry, licorice and cedar notes. A rounded and fresh palate, followed by fine, dense tannins. This is a wine built to last and for early drinking would benefit from decanting.
About the producer
Mindful that no single vineyard can satisfy the needs of all grape varieties, Neil Ellis set out to identify distinct terroir in which individual varieties will excel. He placed the emphasis not only on the environment but also on caring viticultural practises by a dedicated team of growers which extends through to the winemaking practises.
Today the journey of Neil Ellis Wines is not only of Neil Ellis anymore. After four decades of making wine, the next stage of the journey has begun with Neil’s son, Warren, sharing responsibilities as winemaker and viticulturist in the pursuit of quality winemaking.
The new winery and tasting room, built in 2010, houses Neil Ellis Wines’ sales, marketing, administration and production under one roof.
The winery has its own crushpad, fermentation room, barrel maturation cellar as well as stabilisation and bottling facilities giving us full control of every aspect of the winemaking process.
