Gordon & MacPhail Strathmill 25 Year Old 1999 – Cask #541
The Citizens Selection | First Fill Bourbon Barrel | 53.1% ABV | 142 Bottles
An unusually mature single-cask Strathmill bottled by Gordon & MacPhail for The Citizens Pub in Boston. Filled in 1999 and bottled on May 26, 2025 after 25 years of maturation, First Fill Bourbon Barrel #541 produced only 142 bottles at 53.1% ABV.
At a quarter-century old, this is a rare opportunity to explore mature Strathmill at natural single-cask strength, with the bourbon barrel allowing the distillery’s fruit-driven character to remain clearly present.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Dried banana and poached pear complemented by marzipan and butterscotch.
Palate: Sweet tropical fruits develop alongside apple, malted biscuit and gentle confectionery notes.
Finish: Full and long, with mixed nuts, lingering malt and a distinctive touch of aniseed.
About Strathmill Distillery
Strathmill was established in 1891 in Keith, Speyside. Despite its long history, official single-malt releases from the distillery have been relatively uncommon, with much of its production traditionally destined for blended Scotch whisky. Independent bottlings therefore provide an important opportunity to experience Strathmill’s elegant, fruity and gently malty spirit on its own.
About Gordon & MacPhail
Established in Elgin in 1895, Gordon & MacPhail has spent more than a century working with many of Scotland’s great distilleries. Its reputation was built not simply on bottling whisky, but on selecting casks and managing maturation—often holding spirit for decades before deciding it was ready for release.
With 25 years of maturation, cask strength and an outturn of just 142 bottles, this is an especially interesting example of a distillery that is rarely encountered at this age as a single malt.
