El Coto Crianza 2018…~$16
Tempranillo from Rioja, Spain
Winemaker Notes
Produced from 100% Tempranillo, this native varietal is fermented and aged in oak for at least 12 months with an additional six months resting in bottle, prior to release. El Coto Crianza is exceptionally balanced with layers of fresh raspberry, cherry, spice and toasted oak, building to a silky finish. Perfectly complements a variety of meats and cheeses, especially jamon.
Critical Acclaim
James Suckling 92
A fresh, fruity red with plum and orange-peel aromas and flavors. Medium body. Clean and delicious finish.
Wine Enthusiast 90
Dark garnet to the eye, this wine has aromas of black currant, licorice and Marcona almond. Its smooth tannins feel good on the palate. Opening flavors of bittersweet chocolate and mint hit the tastebuds first, followed by flavors of blackberry and raspberry that are joined by touches of vanilla and baking spice on the finish.
Azul y Garanza Viura (1 Liter) 2020…~$14
Viura from Navarra, Spain
Winemaker Notes
Fresh, dry and delicious, making the case for bigger is better (at least in terms of volume). Viura (you may know as Macabeo, or maybe as the white wine of Rioja) can tend to be somewhat neutral (boring) but the naturally low yields here preserve and bring out lively citrus and pear fruit flavors on a balanced backbone of acidity.
Honoro Vera Rioja DOCa…~$9
Appellation:Rioja
Region:Rioja
Country:Spain
ABV:13.5%
Raw Materials: Tempranillo
Product description
This distinctive wine is delicate yet expressive, with ripe plum and fig flavors. The plush texture has good density, bright acidity, integrated tannins, a spicy finish and a long aftertaste.
About the producer
The grapes/organic grapes used to produce the Honoro Vera and Honoro Vera Organic wines are from various vineyards, spread across Spain and are generally located at over 2,300 feet in elevation. These various vineyards are at least over 30 years of age with little production due to the fact the vines are planted in a bed of limestone and sand. These soil beds offer very poor nutrients, which is quite ideal for this type of crop. The end results are the outstanding, award winning wines of Honoro Vera.
