Distillery Profile – Caol Ila
Founded on Islay in 1846, Caol Ila sits near Port Askaig overlooking the Sound of Islay toward Jura. The distillery was substantially rebuilt in the early 1970s and is now the island’s largest. Its whisky is particularly associated with a comparatively light, precise style of peat smoke, often accompanied by coastal salinity and subtle oily notes.
