Clyde May’s Alabama Style Whiskey
Clyde May’s Alabama Style Whiskey embodies Southern charm in every sip. First crafted in 1946 by Clyde May himself, this whiskey has grown from humble beginnings in Alabama to become the state’s official spirit. Though May ran his operation outside the law for decades, the brand was finally legalized in 2001 and continues his legacy today under Conecuh Ridge Distillery.
Made from a mash bill of 55% corn, 30% rye, and 15% malted barley, the whiskey is aged six to seven years in oak barrels before being finished with a subtle touch of apple—an homage to Clyde’s original recipe. Bottled at 85 proof (42.5% ABV), it offers an inviting balance of strength and smoothness at an approachable $35 price point.
On the nose, you’ll find the warmth of oak layered with a gentle fruitiness. The palate delivers smooth, slightly sweet notes of caramel with soft hints of apple, rounded out by rye spice and malt depth. The finish is balanced and lingering, making it just as enjoyable neat as it is in classic cocktails like an Old Fashioned or Whiskey Sour.
Whether sipped slowly on a quiet evening or shared with friends, Clyde May’s Alabama Style Whiskey captures the unmistakable taste of tradition—and the enduring spirit of the South.
