Bruichladdich looks set to unveil The Laddie Rye, a bold new rye-based Single Grain that continues the distillery’s mission to explore the intersection of agriculture, community, and flavour.
Distilled from Islay-grown rye and malted barley, this 7-year-old expression is matured in American oak and bottled at 50% ABV. Like all Bruichladdich releases, it is un-chill filtered, naturally coloured, and crafted with Islay spring water.
Born from the 2017 rye harvest, The Laddie Rye reflects a shared vision between distiller and farmer to challenge monocropping and support regenerative agriculture. Rye’s natural soil-enriching properties reduce the need for artificial inputs, reinforcing Bruichladdich’s ongoing commitment to sustainable farming on Islay.
The result is a whisky that marries sweet coconut, vanilla, and chocolate notes from the oak with peppery spice from the rye and fresh green fruit from the barley — all underpinned by the distillery’s signature maritime influence from Islay’s cool, salt-laden air.
