Kentucky meets the Isle of Jura in one of Bardstown Bourbon Company’s most ambitious Collaborative Series releases to date.

Lochs of Jura begins with a carefully constructed blend of mature American bourbon and rye whiskies aged between 10 and 12 years. The blend was then given an extraordinary 32-month secondary maturation in casks sourced from the remote Scottish Isle of Jura that had previously matured Jura Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

The finishing casks comprise 84% ex-bourbon and 16% ex-Sherry Jura whisky barrels, bringing together mature American whiskey with layers of malt, fruit, oak and subtle maritime character from its long Scotch cask finish.

The result is not simply bourbon with a fleeting Scotch influence. After nearly three additional years in Jura casks, the American whiskey and Scottish oak have had time to integrate, producing a fascinating meeting of two very different whisky traditions.

The Whiskey

• 49%: 11-Year-Old Indiana Straight Bourbon — 75% Corn, 21% Rye, 4% Malted Barley
• 30%: 10-Year-Old Indiana Straight Rye — 95% Rye, 5% Malted Barley
• 21%: 12-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon — 75% Corn, 13% Rye, 12% Malted Barley

32 Months in Jura Whisky Casks

After blending, the whiskey spent an additional 32 months in barrels that had previously held Single Malt Scotch Whisky on the Isle of Jura.

84% ex-Bourbon Jura Casks
These barrels reinforce vanilla, caramel and toasted oak while introducing softer malt-driven character from their previous Scotch maturation.

16% ex-Sherry Jura Casks
The Sherry-seasoned component adds darker fruit, spice and richness, providing another dimension to the mature bourbon and rye.

Tasting Notes

Nose
Vanilla crème and blackberry compote lead the way, joined by fresh mint, toasted oak and cigar box. Cinnamon, spiced vanilla and bright citrus emerge with time.

Palate
Rich caramel and mature American oak meet orange, baking spice and nutmeg, with layers of ripe fruit, soft malt and chocolate. The rye provides structure and spice while the long Jura cask maturation contributes additional depth and complexity.

Finish
Long and warming, with lingering oak, sweet spice, citrus and fruit balanced by a subtle malt-driven character.

From Jura to Bardstown

The casks travelled from the Isle of Jura, Scotland to Bardstown, Kentucky, bringing two historic whisky cultures together. Jura is one of Scotland’s most remote whisky-producing islands, home to roughly 250 residents and famously the island where George Orwell completed 1984.
