Alma Distillery Mater Rum Purple Cane, Batch 01, Harvest ’24, 54% abv (700ml)

The Alma Distilleria Artigianale was established in 2022 and is one of Europe’s only single estate rum producers. They are farmers, distillers, and artisans unlike any other in Italy. From March to June, every day, they harvest the cane by hand; the juice, extracted with a small mill, is mash in the distillery and fermented with oenological yeasts, for 72-96 hours. Their small, but powerful 600-liter bain-marie potstill is connected to a column with four plates distills the fresh wort into one of the world’s finest spirits. The fresh rum is rested in stainless steal to add depth, but retain all the wild characteristics of the special terroir from which it came. Guardians of this soil, its beauty and well-being; they cultivate in harmony with the habitat, respecting the vitality of the earth, using cane waste as natural fertilizer. Using gorgeous recycled glass bottles to transport their rum, they strive to create a responsible product that adds more to the earth than it takes away. It is their land, and their rum. A true expression of the Sicilian Terroir in a new total medium.
