Tasting: Cachaca Germana and Eaux-De-Vie Fassbind with Dave Catania and Stephan Kopp

Join us for a special tasting of Brazilian cachaça Germana and Swiss eaux-de-vie Fassbind with founder Stephan Kopp joining us in person straight from Switzerland and Dave Catania (Burke Distributing).

In the tasting, Dave will cover the differences in cachaça, what makes it different from rum, industrial cachaça versus artisanal, as well as how to make a perfect caipirina (pronounced Kai-Pee-Ree-nah).

Stephan Kopp, owner of Fassbind and part of the Germana cachaca family, has flown in from Switzerland and will present Fassbind Eaux-De-Vie (“water of life”), some of the very first distilled European spirits. In a time before refrigeration, these spirits were remarkable because while fruit spoiled and rotted, the spirits distilled from them retained the aroma and flavor of the fruit for an eternity.

Fassbind is the “great granddaddy” of Swiss Eaux-De-Vie, produced since 1846, and it is widely regarded as one of the finest in the world. Being totally dependent on the quality of the fruit, these spirits are terroir driven with an unmatched aroma and flavor in the category. Fassbind also have an oak aged product that has been barrel aged with dried fruit following family recipes handed down for 170 years.
