The Angeles family has been making mezcal for several generations in Santa Catarina Minas\, Oaxaca. Their mezcal is made in small clay pot stills\, and almost all of it is rested in glass for several months before bottling\, giving the mezcal a much softer character. Outside of creating great spirits\, they also have one of the largest and most diverse sustainable agave reforestation programs. With the help of the community\, they’ve been able to rescue several agave varieties that were previously thought to be extinct. The ABV of each batch may vary slightly\, so check your bottle for details. \nAbout Fortaleza: \nFive generations of tequila that can be traced to the heart of the town of tequila. Guillermo Erickson Sauza’s grandfather was responsible for the forming of the Denomination of Origin (DO) for Tequila. Tequila Fortaleza uses fully mature blue weber agave\, is brick oven roasted\, 100% tahona crushed\, open air fermented in wood vats and twice distilled in copper pot stills and as always- Additive Free\, this week we’ll be lucky enough to sample a very limited production run of their “Still Strength” that is made exclusively of agaves grown around Guillermo’s hacienda\, plus other expressions. \nNote: if you participated in Road Trip Through Mexico before\, please bring your passport and veladora glass.
