SUMMARY:Chinaco Tequila Tasting with Paulo Pereira
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, March 2nd\, at 7:00 PM\, for a hybrid tasting of Chinaco Tequila led by Paulo Pereira\, Business Development Manager at Hotaling & Co. \nAgaves for Chinaco are organic as the plantations in Tamaulipas do not require fertilizers or herbicides. Tamaulipas agaves are harvested with incomparable phenolic ripeness. Chinaco purchases some of its agaves from local growers in different municipalities of Tamaulipas\, with the most quality conscious jimadores submitting agave samples regularly for constant appraisal of maturation.  \nFermentation occurs in stainless steel vessels\, using the same\, proprietary\, ambient yeasts since Chinaco’s inception in 1978. A 72-hour slow fermentation process with the proprietary yeast contributes to the fruitiness and floral aromatics inherent to Chinaco Tequila. Distillation takes place in two stainless steel\, copper-lined alembic stills both purchased in the 1970’s and still in operation. \nTasting kits (virtual) — Cost $35 \n\nChinaco Blanco 750ml ($39.99 regular)\nChinaco Double Jigger\nChinaco Recipe Card\nCitrus Reamer\nGlass\nLimes\n\nTasting kits (in-person) — Cost $35 \n\nChinaco Blanco 750ml ($39.99 regular)\nChinaco Double Jigger\nChinaco Recipe Card\nCitrus Reamer\nGlass\nLimes\nPour of Chinaco Blanco\nPour of Chinaco Añejo\nPour of Chinaco Reposado\nTequila Cocktail\nAssorted food by The Curry House\n\nPickup will be available at Norfolk Wine & Spirits starting at 5:00 PM on Friday\, February 26th. And John Teeling\, father of Jack and Stephen\, is credited as one of the pioneers who made the revival of Irish whiskey possible with the creation of Cooley and reopening Kilbeggan. SUMMARY:Powers Irish Whiskey Hybrid Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Join us virtually or in-person on Thursday\, March 4th\, at 7:00 PM for a Powers Irish Whiskey tasting! \nJames Power established John’s Lane distillery in 1791 in Dublin\, and it was one of the first distilleries in the world to sell directly to merchants and independent bottlers. Famous whisky historian Alfred Barnard wrote about his visit to the distillery: \n“The old make\, which we drank with our luncheon\, was delicious\, and finer than anything we had hitherto tasted. It was as perfect in flavour\, and as pronounced in the ancient aroma of Irish Whisky so dear to the hearts of connoisseurs\, as one could possibly desire\, and we found a small flask of it very useful afterwards on our travels.” \nWhen the Irish whiskey industry struggled in mid 1900’s\, the distillery joined other big distilleries to form Irish Distillers\, and later on consolidated production at Midleton distillery. Powers Gold Label is still one of the top selling whiskeys in Ireland.Virtual Tasting Kit — $22: \n\nPowers Gold Label (750 mL) (reg. $29.99)\nQ Ginger\n\nIn-Person Tasting Kit — $22: \n\nPowers Gold Label (750 mL) (reg. $29.99)\nQ Ginger\nPour of Powers Gold Label\nPour of Powers Single Pot Still John’s Lane 12 Year Old\nPour of Powers Single Pot Still Three Swallow\nAssorted food by The Curry House\n\nPickup will be available at Norfolk Wine & Spirits on Friday\, February 26th\, after 5:00pm. SUMMARY:Fattoria di Grignano Italian Wine Hybrid Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Join us virtually or in-person on Friday\, March 5th\, at 8:00 PM for Grignano wine tasting with Joe Goldsmith\, Portfolio Manager\, Ruby Wines! \nJoe Goldsmith will cover the wines of Fattoria di Grignano\, the regions of Tuscany\, how to read an Italian wine label\, IGT vs DOC vs DOCG\, and what “organic” means in wine production. \nFattoria di Grignano is the site of a stunning villa built by the Marchesi Gondi in the 15th century and later completely rebuilt in its current from in the 18th century. Since 1972 it has been owned by the Inghirami family\, one of the most important names in Italian fashion. The villa is the core of Fattoria di Grignano\, located in the middle of a vast estate that stretched from the Sieve River into the hills above the town of Pontassieve\, all within the Chianti Rufina designation zone. \nToday\, the estate covers nearly 600 hectares divided into 47 farms with orchards and arable crops\, although wine and olive growing are the main activites. The old cellars of the historic villa were recently restored to their original splendour and a young\, female winemaker Barbara Tamburini makes sure the wines live up to the grand location. Both the winery and the vineyards are certified organic. The particular microclimate of the area\, altitude and ventilation allow for high quality of the grapes with minimal intervention. \nVirtual Tasting Kit — $34.99: \n\n3-bottle bundle (Reg. $57.97)\n\nGrignano Chianti Rufina 2016\nGrignano Pietramaggio 2016\nGrignano Chianti Reserve 2013\n\n\n\nIn-Person Tasting Kit — $19.99: \n\nPour of Grignano Chianti Rufina 2016\nPour of Grignano Pietramaggio 2016\nPour of Grignano Chianti Reserve 2013\n$10 credit applicable to wine purchase\nAssorted food by The Curry House\n\nPickup is already available at Norfolk Wine & Spirits. SUMMARY:Writer’s Tears & The Irishman Irish Whiskey Tasting & Cocktails
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Friday\, March 12th\, at 7:00 PM\, for a hybrid tasting of Irishman and Writer’s Tears Irish Whiskeys with Paulo Pereira\, Business Development Manager at Hotaling & Co. \nThe Irishman is the Walsh family’s original whiskey and represents the rebirth of the traditional family-owned provincial distilling that thrived during the last golden age of Irish Whiskey in the early 1900s. With a focus on quality and attention to detail\, Bernard Walsh and his family produce premium and super-premium Irish whiskeys that invoke that golden era of Irish whiskey history. This dedication to the whiskey craft has forged The Irishman range of tripled-distilled whiskeys\, whose smooth and warm glow perfectly express the unique Irish spirit of friendship and shared welcome. \nWriter’s Tears finds inspiration in the 19th and early 20th century\, when Ireland was a golden era both for Irish whiskey and\, perhaps coincidentally\, for great Irish novelists\, poets and playwrights—George Bernard Shaw\, Oscar Wilde\, W.B. Yeats\,  James Joyce\, Samuel Beckett and Bram Stoker\, to name but a few. Many of these great writers would take refuge in their local public house\, where they could draw inspiration from their daily observations of life while enjoying the comfort of their favorite dram of whiskey. Walsh Whiskey’s Writers’ Tears Copper Pot is a critically acclaimed\, award-winning recreation of that fabled 19th century style of whiskey. A truly unique expression that is embedded in history.  \nVirtual Take-Home Kit — $35 \n– Writer’s Tears\, Copper Pot Irish Whiskey gift set (750mL) (Reg. $42.99)– Coffee Bag– Fever Tree Ginger Ale \nIn-Person Kit — $35 \n– Writer’s Tears\, Copper Pot Irish Whiskey gift set (750mL) (Reg. $42.99)– Coffee Bag– Fever Tree Ginger– Pour of Writer’s Tears\, Double Oak Irish Whiskey Aged in American And French Oaks– Pour of The Irishman\, Founder’s Reserve Small Batch Irish Whiskey– Pour of The Irishman\, 12 Years Old Single Malt Irish Whiskey Limited Release– Pour of The Irishman\, Cask Strength Small Batch Irish Whiskey Limited Release– Pour of The Irishman Irish Cream– Assorted Food by The Curry House \nPickup will be available at Norfolk Wine & Spirits starting at 5:00 PM on Sunday\, March 7th. SUMMARY:Gin Tasting: Hotaling & Co. Porfolio
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, March 20th\, at 2:00 PM\, for a hybrid Gin tasting and cocktails with Paulo Pereira\, Business Development Manager at Hotaling & Co. \nFocusing on Junipero\, this is one of the pioneers of the craft gin scene in the U.S. It’s distilled by Hotaling & Co. (formerly Anchor Distilling) in San Francisco\, starting in 1996. The flavor is bright and crisp\, with juniper and other botanicals leading the way\, followed by a burst of citrus. The bottle got a redesign this past summer\, with a look updated to what the brand says is inspired by “public art.” The liquid inside remains the same\, though. It is a solid place to start exploring American gin. SUMMARY:Gin Tasting & Cocktails: Monkey 47\, Plymouth & Malfy
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday\, March 25th\, at 7:00 PM\, for a hybrid Gin tasting with Tim Murphy\, Brand Manager at Pernod Ricard\, and cocktails by Gianna Bushe\, a.k.a. @bibitybobitybooze. \nMonkey 47 has become a cult gin for his back story\, branding and complex flavor profile. Fifteen years ago\, distiller/founder Alex Stein heard the story of Montgomery ‘Monty’ Collins\, from the Royal Air Force\, who after World War II helped in the reconstruction of Berlin\, then opened a guesthouse called “The Wild Monkey” in the German Black Forest\, and developed a Schwarzald Dry gin recipe using local botanicals. A few years later Stein was launching Monkey 47\, which contains 47 botanicals —several from the Black Forest— and has an AVB of 47%.  \nPlymouth Gin also has a story behind. “Plymouth Gin” used to be a Protected Geographical Indication that pertained to any gin distilled in Plymouth\, England\, but today there is only one gin produced at Plymouth\,  by the Black Friars Distillery. The Plymouth Original Strength is bottled at 41.2% ABV. It’s slightly less dry than London Dry gin due to a higher than usual proportion of root ingredients. \nTasting kits (virtual) — Cost $60 \n\nMonkey 47 Gin (375mL) (reg. $42.99)\nPlymouth Gin (750mL) (reg. $32.99)\nMalfy Gin Rosa Pink Grapefruit Flavored Gin (50 mL)\nMixer\nCocktail Recipes Card\nPlymouth T-shirt\nMonkey 47 coaster\n1 x raffle number for a Plymouth backpack\n\nTasting kits (in-person) — Cost $60 \n\nMonkey 47 Gin (375mL) (reg. $42.99)\nPlymouth Gin (750mL) (reg. $32.99)\nMalfy Gin Rosa Pink Grapefruit Flavored Gin (50 mL)\nPour of Plymouth Gin Navy\nPour of Plymouth Sloe Gin\nMixer\nCocktail Recipes Card\nPlymouth T-shirt\nMonkey 47 coaster\n1 x raffle number for a Plymouth backpack\n3 x Gin Cocktails by Gianna Bushe at The Curry House\nAssorted food by The Curry House\n\nPickup will be available at Norfolk Wine & Spirits starting at 5:00 PM on Friday\, March 19th. SUMMARY:Whiskey Tasting: West Cork Irish Whiskey
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Friday\, March 26th\, at 7:00 PM\, for a hybrid tasting of West Cork Irish Whiskey with Brand Manager Alex Thibault. \nBased in Skibbereen\, Ireland\, the company was founded in 2003 by childhood friends\, John O’Connell\, Denis McCarthy and Ger McCarthy and has since grown to a team of over 100 people. West Cork is currently the largest wholly Irish owned distillery in the country. \nDistilling began in a small room at the back of Den’s house in 2003 and it wasn’t until 2014 that the operation moved to Market Street in Skibbereen. As the business expanded\, much of the distillery equipment was hand built as needed\, such as the Rocket\, reported to be ‘the fastest still in the world’ at the time.  \nEight pot stills and two column stills produce almost 4 million litres of alcohol (LPA) annually. A further three stills are dedicated to gin. Five bottling lines operate 24 hours per day\, six days per week. Every hour\, there are 2\,000 bottles processed on site. Seven warehouses\, which are all located on site at the distillery in Skibbereen\, store up to 55\,000 casks as needed.  \nWest Cork Bourbon Cask has a delicate blend of grain (75%) and malt (25%) whiskey matured in bourbon casks\, with a slight citrus and cracked pepper aroma. A smooth and balanced whiskey\, the taste is one of malt\, lingering sweetness\, citrus\, apple and nutmeg. \nVirtual Take-Home Kit — $20 \n– West Cork Irish Whiskey Bourbon Cask (750 mL) (reg $24.99)– Q Ginger Ale (500 mL)– West Cork T-shirt– West Cork Tote Bag– West Cork Irish Bandana– West Cork St. Patrick’s Day Necklace– West Cork Cocktail & Irish Coffee Recipe Card– West Cork Koozie \nIn-Person Kit — $20 \n– West Cork Irish Whiskey Bourbon Cask (750 mL) (reg $24.99)– Q Ginger Ale (500 mL)– Welcome Cocktail– West Cork T-shirt– West Cork Tote Bag– West Cork Irish Bandana– West Cork St. Patrick’s Day Necklace– West Cork Cocktail & Irish coffee recipe card– West Cork Koozie– Pour of West Cork 8 Year Old– Pour of West Cork IPA Finish– Pour of West Cork Stout Finish– Pour of West Cork Black Cask– Pour of West Cork Barrel Proof– Pour of West Cork Glengarriff Bog Oak Cask– Pour of West Cork Glengarriff Peat Charred Cask \nPickup will be available at Norfolk Wine & Spirits starting at 5:00 PM on Sunday\, March 21st.
